Windsor, Thursday, October 13, 2016 — The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) announced a three-year commitment from LiUNA! (Labourers’ International Union of North America) as the festival’s People’s Choice Award Sponsor.
People’s Choice Award is considered the festival’s top prize. Upon exiting each screening, audience members are handed a ballot to rate the film. These numbers are tallied throughout the festival, and the film with the highest average audience rating is crowned People’s Choice Award winner. Last year, WIFF audiences responded in tremendous numbers to the intense, inspiring, and well-acted drama TRUMBO about Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston), a Hollywood screenwriter.
“This is the festival’s biggest honour, and provides an opportunity for our audience to collectively voice their opinions,” remarks WIFF Executive Director Vincent Georgie. “We are thrilled to have LiUNA! as our People’s Choice Award Sponsor, and feel that it is a natural fit.”
“WIFF is an absolutely exceptional event and LiUNA! wants to champion them, as we tremendously value the community engagement that WIFF provides,” comments Rob Petroni, LiUNA!625 Business Manager. “The LiUNA! People’s Choice Award is a natural fit for us to be the voice of our community’s movie-lovers.”
LiUNA! is the fastest growing and most progressive union of construction craft workers in Canada.
The festival runs from November 1st to November 6th, 2016. Tickets are available online at www.windsorfilmfestival.com as of October 13th, or in person at the WIFF Box Office, located at 176 University Avenue W. as of October 24th.
